We forget how often the scriptures speak against violent conflict. We have learned war so well that we assume it is necessity of life. We do not hear the call of God as an invitation to live life in a way which is less concerned about protecting what we have and more focused on enabling others to live.
Over time, we all gravitate to those portions of the Bible which reinforce what we want to think it means to follow Jesus; as time passes, we ignore the parts of the Bible which critique or condemn the sins of which we are most guilty. This ought not to be so.
